Less than an hour from town, a wonderful hike up the back side of Pikes Peak. It is especially great in the fall, with aspen color mixing in with pine trees and magnificent rock formations. It’s a mild incline to start, long straight easy walk in the middle, and a slightly harder push at the end, though by then the views start to distract you and you will not notice. We promise!
There are equal parts cool forest glade and warm sunny meadows. And the views from the top cannot be beat– 360-degree views for MILES. It’s unreal!
This past weekend was pretty awesome but by next weekend the colors will be spectacular.
How to get there– Hwy 24 west through Woodland Park, and at Divide, turn south. Just after Mueller State Park, the Crags is well marked with a sign on the left. You’ll wind up the hill, through a Menonite camp and up another gravel road for about 10 minutes. People, do this hike this weekend!
